MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Aug. 1, 2007) – Morgan Keegan & Company, Inc. announced that veteran municipal finance investment banker Michael J. Tierney has joined the firm as a managing director in the firm’s New York investment banking office. Tierney was formerly with Goldman, Sachs.
“Mike is a very talented and well respected investment banker specializing in tax-exempt facilities and corporate-related financings,” said Robert A. Baird, executive managing director and head of Morgan Keegan’s fixed income investment banking group. “He brings to Morgan Keegan an in-depth knowledge of industry professionals based in New York as well as a long list of client relationships.”
For the past 27 years, including 15 years as a group manager, Tierney was a vice-president in public financing with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York. In 1999, Tierney served as lead banker on a billion-dollar bond financing for Continental Airlines’ Global Gateway project at Newark Liberty International Airport, a “Deal of the Year” selection in 2000 by Institutional Investor magazine.
A former board trustee at New York’s Xavier High School, Tierney continues to serve on the board’s finance committee. He is past president and board chair of The Epiphany School Foundation in New York. A graduate of College of the Holy Cross, Tierney received his MBA degree from Rutgers University.
The addition of Tierney to Morgan Keegan’s New York office comes just two months after the firm’s acquisition of Shattuck Hammond Partners, a New York-based investment banking and financial advisory firm specializing in the healthcare services industry, and further increases the firm’s fixed income banking presence in the Northeast and Midwest. Morgan Keegan is the nation’s 11th leading underwriter of tax-exempt securities.
“Mike’s addition to our New York office, combined with the acquisition of Shattuck Hammond, is a big step toward our goal of becoming a top-ten underwriter nationally,” said Baird.
